Fall Favorites

Hello, World.

The town I go to school in is currently experiencing a heat wave, and I am not about it. The temperatures are consistently in the high 80s or mid 90s, and it’s frankly much hotter than I’m willing to deal with. Also, if you factor in that I have a head cold at the moment, I just feel cloudy in the head, and too warm and uncomfortable to be super functioning. Anyway, as a result of the heat, I’ve prayed that fall comes soon, especially now that Pumpkin Spice Lattes are available (which is the quintessential fall beverage for most girls in their twenties). So, I was looking at a few of my favorite stores online, and while melting away in my dorm room, I compiled a little list of my current favorite fall items!
Fall FavoritesJ Crew Factory Sweater | J Crew Factory Rain Coat | J Crew Button Down | J Crew Factory Grey Skirt | J Crew Plaid Skirt | Brooks Brothers Plaid Dress | Cole Haan Penny Loafers (dream shoe!) | L.L. Bean 6″ Boot (I have the 8″, which I love, but I think I might invest in the 6″ as well. I love the 8″ with dresses and skirts, but I think the 6″ hits in a more flattering place in jeans).

I sure hope the weather cools down soon, and we can start wearing sweaters and boots again! I’m so much more inspired by fall weather than summer weather. What are your fall favorites?

Fourth of July Outfit Ideas

Hello, World.

If there is one holiday that I truly, truly love it is the Fourth of July. Any excuse to wear red, white, and blue is a good thing. I usually go all out for the fourth because I just love dressing patriotic, and I love all the cute stuff that my favorite stores come out with for the occasion. I always spend the holiday at my cabin, and we watch fireworks by the lake, make s’mores, and hangout on the beach. It’s pretty idyllic.

With the Fourth approaching quickly, I thought now would be a great time to share some outfit ideas, or just patriotic pieces you can add to wardrobe! The Tuckernuck Fourth of July line is probably my favorite this year. You must check it out! Anyway, here is my roundup of the best Fourth of July apparel.

I love, love, love everything on this collage, and I hope you do too. Here’s to having the best, most patriotic outfit at your celebration!

J. Crew Flared Skirt

Hello, World.

As I grow my wardrobe, I try to buy more skirts. I’ve always been someone who typically sticks to short and jeans, skirts and dresses are a little scarce in my closet. It takes me a while to decide on what style of skirt I want to purchase next, but the J. Crew flared skirt is one I wanted for a while, but never actually purchased. About a month ago, the skirt was on J. Crew factory and had an extra 40% off. I finally went ahead and bought it. I knew I had a few different ways I wanted to style it, and knew it would be great for all seasons (just add tights in the winter!).

I love this skirt, and I’m excited to wear it this spring and summer! I’m so ready for summer break. I’ll be spending my summer studying for the LSAT, but I’m also excited to be able to have a brief hiatus from school and the nonstop stress that encompasses it.

J. Crew Flounced Dress

Hello, World.

Want to know something that makes me feel exactly like Jackie O or Audrey Hepburn? A flouncy, feminine dress, of course. I found this one on sale at J. Crew about a month ago, when my mom visited, and I was so excited to wear it, but the weather wasn’t quite warm enough. I really wanted to wear it to Easter brunch at the country club, but it ended up raining, and I didn’t have tights to pair it with. Yesterday, though, the weather was beautiful, so I decided to go ahead and wear it as a casual look.

dress: J. Crew // jacket: Abercrombie (thrifted) // shoes: Converse Shoreline // purse: Kate Spade via TJ Maxx // watch: Michael Kors (old via Macy’s)

I love this dress, and I plan to get a lot of use out of it this summer! It’s so comfortable, and it can be either dressed up or down, depending on the occasion. I also wear my converse shoreline sneaks so much! If you don’t already have a pair, I’d definitely suggest investing in a pair before summer. They’re the perfect shoe, so comfy and cute!

Enjoy your Sunday! I’m heading to grab brunch with friends before studying all day!

Red Plaid and Herringbone

Hello, World.

About three months ago, my parents came to visit me at school, and we went shopping one of the days they were here. We went into Francesca’s downtown, and I found some different blanket scarves. I’d been wanting to try a blanket scarf for a while, but never really got around to it. When I saw the scarves at that store, however, I got really excited. They had so many different versions, which made it difficult to pick which one I wanted. Long story short, I decided against this one (which Marley Lilly later sent me!) and chose to go with a red and navy plaid. My mom bought it for me, but was going to save it until Christmas. Well, I opened it  Christmas morning, and was so excited to wear it! There is nothing like a good plaid scarf to keep you warm on chilly days!

IMG_2748IMG_2754IMG_2749IMG_2764I’m a huge scarf person, but I haven’t worn scarves much this fall and winter. This scarf, though, is so warm and soft and comfy that I imagine I’ll be wearing it at least once a week! What’s your go-to scarf? Have you tried blanket scarves? If so, what’s your favorite way to tie them?

Varsity Stripes

Hello, World.

You know what I love? When I find a sweater that is cozy, cute, and practical. For Christmas my mom got me this sweater, and I just love it! I picked it out a while ago, and I thought it would be good for this winter. I’m a big vest person, and I thought it’d be perfect for pairing with any of my vests. I loved this outfit. It’s rather simple, but that’s partially why I like it so much. I love a good casual outfit with a hint of style.

IMG_2694IMG_2700IMG_2699IMG_2708 IMG_2693IMG_2692I just love this sweater! It’s been so so cold in Chico lately. My family and I freeze every time we go outside. We always try to convince each other to take the puppy out to go potty because none of us want to go outside. I imagine I’ll be putting this outfit together this semester for class, dinner with friends, or heading to a cafe for homework!

Happy New Year’s Eve!!

Vests and Riding Boots

Hello, World.

I’m loving the overly wintery weather lately. Being home is so wonderful, even though I’m still living out of a suitcase because I’m having trouble wanting to unpack. My mom and I get ready everyday, then grab coffee and talk and enjoy ourselves. It’s so nice!!!

I really like this sweater! I got it a few years ago, and I don’t wear it a ton, but every time I do, I end up remembering how much I like it! I also really love my vest. When I first got the vest, I wasn’t sure how to wear it because I’m not super into mixing patterns and things, but it’s made me grow my comfort zone, and I know I’ll be styling it a million different ways in the future. This is a fairly simple and casual look!

Herringbone and Burch

Hello, World.

Fall is officially here, and yet the sun is still shining, and it’s still 70 degrees outside. I’m not exactly thrilled it is still super warm outside, but oh well. In a feeble attempt to channel some fall vibes, I keep dressing more for fall…but then I end up dying of a heat stroke, so I change mid-day. I recently ordered the J. Crew herringbone vest, and I’m super in love with it. I’m beginning to really love vests. Last winter I wore my vest a ton. I wanted to invest in another vest for this fall, but I wanted a vest that had a little more texture. When the herringbone vest came back in stock, I knew I had to get it.

They’re so sleek and comfortable. I’m really happy my mom was kind enough to get them as an early birthday gift during the Nordstrom anniversary sale. I hope you’re having a good weekend! I’m heading out soon to get vitality bowls, and tomorrow is one of my best friend’s 21st birthday!

Southern Proper

Hello, World.

In the last year or so I’ve become a hat person. I used to only wear baseball hats if it was required, and I definitely never picked hats out while shopping. Sure, I liked hats on other people, but I never thought of my face as one that looked good with a hat. So last winter, when I realized I was pinning a lot of looks that had hats in them, I started considering the idea of buying myself a baseball cap. I had previously warmed up to the idea of sun hats, and bought two to wear while lounging on the beach during the summer, but I was still rather unsure about baseball caps. However, I ended up going to my niece’s T-ball game, and I wore a hat to shield my face from the sun. Guess what? I didn’t hate the baseball cap look. So about a month later I was in my campus bookstore checking out the new merchandise, and stumbled upon a white SMC cap. I took a risk, and bought it (you can see it styled here in a weekend college look). Anyway, to make a long story short, I started seeing a lot of people wearing the Southern Proper hat featured in this post, and I fell in love. The hat so much character, and I am a sucker for a good plaid piece. Also, the little lab with the red bowtie is too much. I adore it.

DSC_0052Callie2DSC_0047-1DSC_0045DSC_0072DSC_0034 DSC_0037 DSC_0050I swear I’m trying to will fall to come… I love fall more than anything, and I really need some cold weather soon. I love dressing for cold weather more than other seasons, and I always feel more put together in fall. I’m not totally sure why, but I just feel like fall is warmer than summer in a different way than just temperature. Fall is filled with a transition to holiday spirit, oversized sweaters, and leather boots. Fall will forever hold my heart.

Are you ready for fall?

Gingham and Monograms

Hello, World.

I have a new appreciation for weekend mornings. I feel like summer usually feels like a perpetual weekend, even when I’m working, but Saturday and Sunday mornings during the school year feel so important. I love being able to just relax, de-stress, and absorb lack of responsibility. This morning was great, and I finally had the chance to sleep in, take my time getting ready, and then I hung out with friends. Anyway, today I wore my new gingham button down, which is a blouse I’ve wanted for a few years now. I had trouble finding a good gingham, but once I found the J.Crew Factory gingham, which is light and soft, I was sold, so I purchased it during my back to school shopping!

I had a great Saturday, and I enjoyed putting together one of my (hopefully) last summer 2014 outfits. Getting ready this morning I realized just how ready I am for fall. See that coffee cup? It’s a pumpkin chai latte, and it was heavenly. I’m so excited for all this fall has to offer as far as my classes, being a student leader, getting to know new friends better, and just enjoying life! Hope you’re having a great weekend!
