Gilmore Girls Revival Preparation

Hello, World.

I’m SO excited for the Gilmore Girls revival. I can hardly express how truly ecstatic I am. I’m trying to have too many expectations, but I have a feeling it’ll be amazing. In light of the premiere, I wanted to share some essentials for getting the full Gilmore experience while watching the episodes!

Lorelai and Rory ALWAYS order Chinese take out, so for dinner, get some Chinese food from your local spot.

Redvines are the junk food of choice (Amy Sherman Palladino shared this is her junk food go-to). I love Redvines, even though they are so bad for me.

Pop-tarts are a Gilmore essential. They almost always have pop-tarts on Friday nights.

I also recommend getting pizza for good measure. If you’re having a viewing party, Chinese AND pizza are musts!

The coffees should be self-explanatory if you’re a fan of the show. If you’re not, Gilmore Girls drink more coffee than water. Coffee is a must for a complete viewing experience.

Popcorn is an essential for any viewing of any show! Add some M&Ms or caramel or butter, and you can spice up your popcorn bowl.

Finally, for the super fans out there, tissues will be necessary. Whether we cry happy tears or sad tears, I have a feeling the revival will be an emotional experience.

I will likely do a review of the revival epsiodes (but not for a while because I don’t want to give spoilers). Also, spoilers will be clearly marked!

Stationery and Coffee

Hello, World.

Do you ever wonder what happened to the art of writing? So many people prefer texting, facetiming, or simply liking a status in order to keep in touch. One of my favorite things is receiving a hand-written letter. There is something so personal, genuine, and loving about someone taking time out of their day to send me a sweet handwritten note. I’m hoping to spend more time in the next few months taking time to send various people in my life sweet little notes. One thing that makes sending notes easier? Cute stationery! I wanted to share some of my current favorite sets.

I really, really love stationery. Something that make writing letters easier? Good coffee. I kind of have a mug problem. I buy too many mugs, and I have too many travel cups. I just really love mugs. Recently I discovered The Trendy Sparrow etsy shop, and I’m totally hooked. The mugs and travel mugs are so great!

Also, if you follow me on Instagram, you may have noticed I typically hashtag photos #buildingmyempire. I am having a major internal debate about whether or not to add this mug to my collection. I recently ordered the travel mug edition of the Gilmore cup. I’m IN LOVE with it!

What are you favorite things right now?

Gilmore Girls on Netflix

Hello, World.

Guess what today is? Today is the day my favorite television show of all time re-enters the world. GILMORE GIRLS is on NETFLIX. This is not a drill, I repeat, Gilmore Girls is on Netflix. I’m seriously so excited, especially because of all the awesome Gilmore-inspired stuff circulating social media right now. In honor of today, let’s look at a few Gilmore photos.

HUGE compliment. Anyway, goodnight, go watch Gilmore Girls!

How to Survive Midterms

Hello, World.

On top of interviews and school and life, I have midterms starting next week. Though, if I’m being honest, my midterms start this Friday with a history exam. I wanted to stop in and share a few pointers on how to survive midterms, and ace your exams!
Image
First, make sure you are getting enough sleep. I know that I am essentially useless when I am sleep deprived, so making sure I’m getting plenty of sleep increases my productivity and my ability to study.

Second, drink lots of water to ensure that you’re staying hydrated. Also, in addition to water, maybe go for a run or do some cardio to get your energy out before you sit down to study. Restlessness consumes me if I don’t release a little energy before I study and my study time becomes much longer and much less productive. It’s hard to sit in a dorm room or a library when the weather is beginning to get nice, so try running around outside or something before chaining yourself to a desk.

Third, be mindful of your schedule. Know what you have coming up, know how much time things are going to take, and begin studying for an exam the day your receive the study guides. Professors give study aids for a reason, and that reason is NOT for the paper to sit at the bottom of your backpack until the night before the exam.

Fourth, plan to study a little each day for each exam you have a study aid for. In a Rory Gilmore way of studying, begin with world history (in example), and then move to the American Revolution, and when that gets to be too much, move onto American Literature. By segmenting your studying each subject will have your full attention while you’re studying it. Two solid hours of studying one subject with no break can actually decrease your retention level!

Fifth, do homework during the day so that you can relax at night and review your study materials. If you’re trying to homework at night AND study, you’re going to start feeling too overwhelmed, and become unproductive. By finishing all homework in the morning or early afternoon, you’ll have an hour to play before having to move onto study review.

Sixth, prioritize. Know what you feel least confident about, and begin each study session with that subject because when you initially begin studying you’ll be more alert than when you’re studying four hours later.

Seventh, study before AND after group study sessions. Studying before will familiarize you with the material so you aren’t going into group review cold. This may also mean that you’ll have to explain concepts to your peers, and through explanation you further your grasp on the concept. By studying after you will reinforce concepts, but also be able to study concepts that were clarified during group study. Groups can be great, but try not to rely solely on group sessions to get an A on an exam.

What are your study tips?

Lazy Afternoon

Hello, World.

It’s Saturday, and usually I would be enjoying the beautiful weather, lounging around watching whatever I wanted, or relaxing with friends. Unfortunately, I have a ton of homework, and can’t do much of anything today. So, instead, I’m going to tell you my favorite ways to have a lazy afternoon, and I hope you get to relax today!

My favorite things are to watch my favorite TV shows cuddled in bed or drink a hot cup of coffee or tea  and just relax since i don’t get to do that too much during the week. Sometimes I like to either go for a run, a walk, or do yoga because yoga is super relaxing to me. Other lazy days I like to work on a DIY project that isn’t too strenuous, but that will do something cool for my room. My absolute favorite lazy day activity is reading a book! Who doesn’t love reading a good book? How do you spend your lazy weekends?

These Days

Hello, World.

Things have been crazy, hectic, and swell lately.

Drinking: Iced Zen Tea from Starbucks. I came home from the cabin two days earlier than planned due to some family stuff, and I feel like I’m melting in the heat. It’s roughly 97 degrees on average, and that’s about 15 degrees hotter than I like the air around me. Still, there’s nothing like iced tea on scorching days.

Weather: Too hot, really. I just expanded on this in ‘Drinking,’ but I can definitely bad mouth the heat some more. It’s too damn hot. Take me back to the Bay Area please; I sure do miss the lovely breeze and the days that rarely exceed 80 degrees.

Writing: mainly in my journal about my life, my aspirations, and my reflections on things that have happened lately. Something about journaling is immensely soothing to me. I feel like I can just pour my soul into a journal and there’s no judgment or hard feelings. I especially love journaling when I’m really mad about something because I can just vent for pages and pages and never actually have to hurt someone’s feelings.

Reading: I took a hiatus from East of Eden, and am currently finishing up The Sun Also Rises by the lovely Hemingway. The man is sparse, but in the best way. I love the quickness with which the story unfolds, and the witty banter between characters. I read a short story by Hemingway in my Lit. Analysis class last semester, and enjoyed it, but I much prefer the novel to short stories, so I’m glad to be reading a lengthier piece by him. Also, I think I may be in love with the 1920s.

Thinking about: Over the past two weeks, my dad has been in the ER twice, and has had an MRI of his brain, met with a cardiologist, and is scheduled for a stress test. So, to say that my father’s health is constantly on my mind would be obvious, but overwhelmingly true. None of the doctors are sure why he’s been feeling crummy lately, but one of the doctors we’ve worked with is trying really hard to figure out something. Not knowing anything is kind of scary. If the reason for sickness is nothing and he just has a cold or some kind of nasty virus, then I’d like to know exactly that. But if it’s something more serious, then I’d definitely like to know that too.

Missing: Gilmore Girls being a show that is on weekly. I’m a gigantic fan of the show, and I’ve seen every episode at least four times, but sometimes I wish I could see new episodes to find out how Rory’s journalism career is going, if Luke and Lorelei made amends, if Rory came to her senses and married Logan (or Jess), if Paris is still freaked out by sick people, if any more maids sugared the grapefruits, or if anyone found more walnuts in the salad. But alas, I guess if I want to see any more Gilmore Girls I’ll have to write it myself (wink wink).

Addicted to: I’ve been finishing up my Freshman Year scrapbook, and I’m so sad I’m almost done. I’ve come to really love scrapbooking, but I still have my gift book for a friend, which is half scrapbooking I suppose, so maybe I’m not done with the craft for the summer. Still, though, maybe I’ll have to make a scrapbook for each year of college! That’s a nice thought, but we’ll see how it goes. Anyway, I’m relishing the feeling that I’m becoming more creative because I’ve never considered myself a super creative person. But it’s been a goal of mine for a while to become more creative and crafty, so I’m on my way!

How is life going for you lately?

Truly,

Callie leigh
