Finals Attire: Lookin’ Good While Acing Exams

Hello, World.

Finals begin Monday for me, which means I’m starting to pack, and realizing I have way too much stuff. I’m also studying all the time, which means it’s difficult to put outfits together, have motivation to get fully ready, and you know, do life. I usually try to look nice for finals, though, because it makes me feel more awake, more motivated, and more like I can kill whatever exam I am about to take. So, in light of this, I thought I would share some outfit ideas for finals week!

The first look is usually my go-to finals outfit. I like a plain T, and jeans because it is quick to put on, and comfortable to take an exam in. Also, I have the tendency to get cold in classrooms, so the jeans with the t-shirt is a great combination because I’m not too hot or cold. Also, Sperry Top Siders are my favorite shoes to slip on, so I usually wear them when I don’t feel like wearing sandals. Glasses are often more comfortable on exam days because I don’t have to worry about my contacts getting itchy or uncomfortable. I also bring a hair band with me in case I feel like putting my hair up halfway through the exam. Watches are also great because most college classrooms don’t have clocks, and a watch is a great way to track time during a test. (outfit details)

Outfit two is a simply long sleeved with denim shorts, sandals, and a baseball cap. Baseball caps are easy and they cover bad hair days (or unwashed hair if its the last day of finals and you just don’t care anymore). I usually pair a long sleeved with my shorts because, again, I have the tendency to get a bit cold. Sandals are easy to slip on, and will keep you cool when walking around campus in a long sleeved shirt. I usually only take whatever I need for an exam in tote on exam days. I almost always bring water to an exam, and when my allergies are acting up I’ll bring some tissues. Again, TAKE A WATCH. (outfit details)

A chambray top, printed shorts, and Salt Water sandals make for a perfect, slightly dressed up and flirty outfit. The brightness of the shorts will make you feel excited for summer, and will ensure that you look good while finishing finals. Also, I usually paint my nails for finals because a bright color on my nail makes me feel happier while taking an exam. A cute watch is a must, and a cute tote with all exam essentials (blue book, pen, pencil, calculator, water bottle, tissues, etc.). (outfit details)

4 Quick Study Breaks for Finals Week

Hello, World.

Guess what today is? If you answered Thursday, you are correct, but this Thursday is important for a few reasons. Today marks one week from me moving home, one week from my last final exam, and one week from the end of my second year in college! It’s crazy to me how quickly college is going by, and I’m actually quite sad about how fast the days are going. I’m heading to Starbucks soon to study with a friend, partly because I have a coffee addiction, and partly because it’s getting close enough to finals that everyone in the English-speaking world is holed up in the library. As I begin my intense, crazy, relentless days of studying, though, I am thinking about breaks. I am the type of person who has to take breaks every hour while I study because otherwise I become a stressed out, emotional, unable to retain anything person. I also get hungry and grouchy, but that’s beside the point. So, in light of studying and breaking and all that jazz, I thought I would share my favorite four study breaks with you!

First, try painting your nails as a way to de-stress and gain a little motivation to keep studying. I’m so OCD that I actually have trouble concentrating if my nails are chipped, so I will take twenty minutes or so to paint my nails before book my textbook back up.

Second, I will be utilizing this break as much as possible this week because I have yet to start packing, and as I look at the stuff in my room, I know its going to take me a while. Not only do I bring a ton of stuff with me in August, but I also acquire SO much stuff throughout the year. Packing will give you incentive to keep studying so you can be done, but will also help you get that much closer to leaving!

Third, two days ago one of my best friends walked into my room looking stressed out of her mind and asked, “Anyone up for a run? I need to move or I’m going to explode.” Let’s just say runs can relieve stress, they can get your endorphins moving, and they make you feel way calmer so you can study without having any anxiety.

Last but not least, we have one of my personal favorite study breaks! Starbucks with friends, of course. My friends and I always ask each other to go grab some kind of coffee drink because we need the caffeine, we need to talk and laugh for a bit, and we need to do something other than stare at a semester’s worth of school work.

Mini Final Hiatus to Spread Christmas Cheer

Hello, World.

Over the weekend, in the midst of the finals chaos, my friends and I took a small hiatus, and went to my roommate’s house to help her family get and decorate their Christmas tree! It was so much fun, and it was a nice little stress reliever right before my stress level shot up. I had my Biblical Literature final today, and it was hard, but overall I actually really enjoyed the class, which was interesting because I really was not excited about taking it by any stretch of the imagination. It’s not that I’m not spiritual; I’m just not the most religious person (but that’s just me, religion is awesome for a lot of people). So, I finished the test, and I felt like the test went really well, but if it didn’t, then I guess it just wasn’t meant to be. I did my best, and that’s really all I can do.
So, anyway, school rant over. On to my day eating cheap Chinese food, decorating a Christmas tree, getting a Christmas tree, and hanging out with my friends. It was so much fun! I love decorating Christmas trees. My mom is kind of crazy about the whole process; it’s usually multiple days, with Christmas music, and hot coco. I’m a little sad I’m not home to help her decorate anymore, but at the same time I love going home to a really holiday-themed home. Finals are here, and there is a wee bit of tension on campus, but I’m excited for the holidays. I just have to scrape together some motivation to finish my last few assignments.
I had a really great day! To those who still have a ton of final tests, you can do! I hope the curve is ever in your favor, and I hope you punch them in the face. Enjoy today!

These Days.

Hello, World.

So, in the spirit of finals… I am taking a moment to procrastinate (kind of), and post a quick ‘these days.’ A lot of things have been going on in my life lately, so I thought I would post a little catch up post.

Drinking:  A peppermint latte, trying to stay warm in the insanely cold weather that has consumed my town lately. I love a good holiday drink, and I’m kind of a holiday-flavor junky. It makes me really sad when come January it seems odd to order pumpkin or peppermint or gingerbread.

Weather: It’s currently 48 degrees in town, and I’m freezing. Also, it snowed in Chico last night and I am quite devastated that I missed it. Seriously, I waited for four years of high school for it to snow at least once, and it never did, and then the one time I’m away at school it snows. Weather is a fickle little thing.

Reading: Bible homework. My Biblical Literature final is on Monday, and the study guide is five-pages single-spaced. Can you imagine what I am doing?

Thinking About: All the things I have to do between now and Thursday. Talk about stressful. Also, life happened this week, and so I didn’t get as much done as I originally hoped, but something that is nice is that I finally have some closure in my personal life, which is always a good thing. So, now for all nighters….

Excited About: Going to Livermore today, to my best friends house to help her family decorate their Christmas tree, get cheap Chinese food, watch Christmas movies and study. I love her family, they are so welcoming and hilarious, and its nice to know that I have a family close to school when my family is still three hours away.

Missing: My mama, my dad, my sister, sleep, and the ability to just be. Stress has gotten the best of me this semester, but today is a new day, and despite that its now finals, I know that things are looking up, and that in just a few short days, I will be able to cuddle up next to the fire with my dog, a book, some tea, and my family.

Addicted to: I thought about not including this section for this ‘these days’ because I’m really not addicted to anything at the moment, but then I realized I am kind of addicted to happiness. I feel like happiness is always the goal, and I’m addicted to finding it. So, maybe I’m addicted to adventures, or doing things the hard way because I want to figure out what will make me happy, but in the end, I just want to be happy, and I just want the people I care about to be happy. And I hope everyone knows that even when you’re surrounded by confusion, as long as you have faith, happiness will find you.
