Fall Style Inspiration

Hello, World.

Even though it’s mid-September, it’s definitely not feeling like it. There weather is really not feeling like fall, given that it’s 90 degrees almost daily, with a few 75 days thrown in. All I really want is for it to be cold, so I can wear sweaters and boots, and not be way too hot. In light of the warm weather, I wanted to share some of my favorite fall looks to inspire those of you who, like me, are suffering in still too warm weather.

Fall Favorites

Hello, World.

The town I go to school in is currently experiencing a heat wave, and I am not about it. The temperatures are consistently in the high 80s or mid 90s, and it’s frankly much hotter than I’m willing to deal with. Also, if you factor in that I have a head cold at the moment, I just feel cloudy in the head, and too warm and uncomfortable to be super functioning. Anyway, as a result of the heat, I’ve prayed that fall comes soon, especially now that Pumpkin Spice Lattes are available (which is the quintessential fall beverage for most girls in their twenties). So, I was looking at a few of my favorite stores online, and while melting away in my dorm room, I compiled a little list of my current favorite fall items!
Fall FavoritesJ Crew Factory Sweater | J Crew Factory Rain Coat | J Crew Button Down | J Crew Factory Grey Skirt | J Crew Plaid Skirt | Brooks Brothers Plaid Dress | Cole Haan Penny Loafers (dream shoe!) | L.L. Bean 6″ Boot (I have the 8″, which I love, but I think I might invest in the 6″ as well. I love the 8″ with dresses and skirts, but I think the 6″ hits in a more flattering place in jeans).

I sure hope the weather cools down soon, and we can start wearing sweaters and boots again! I’m so much more inspired by fall weather than summer weather. What are your fall favorites?

Little Navy Dress

Hello, World.

With my birthday coming up, as well as RA training, shopping for cute, versatile dresses is a must. RA training is business casual, so I want to make sure I have some business-appropriate dresses and outfits to wear. I usually wear slacks, but I end up dying from heat. So this year, I decided to buy a few extra dresses, and stick mainly to those while being trained. Training is pretty active, and it’s hard to run around and do ice-breakers while wearing a dress, but I’d rather be cool, and get out of a game early, than be hot and win an ice-breaker. Anyway, I went to Kohl’s (which is slowly becoming my favorite store for more impulse-level purchases). I’m basically obsessed with the LC Lauren Conrad line. While not everything is my style, I usually find a couple gems. I admired Lauren Conrad’s style on Laguna Beach, The Hills, and now, when she’s a successful designer and author. If I was shorter, I’d probably rock the whole skinny jean and pump combo a lot more frequently!

So when I was browsing her line the other day, I came upon this cute blue dress. It’s hard to tell in the photos, but it’s a sort of jersey material. So comfortable! It’s also machine washable (which is a MUST if you live on campus). It also has some fun flirty lines that are slimming, and add dimension to an otherwise casual ensemble.

I’m Turning 21

Hello World,

This year’s birthday is a little more special than the last few because… I’m turning 21! I’m so excited to finally be 21. I’ve waited 21 years to drink, and I’m excited that this year I can just go out to dinner with friends and have a glass of wine if I want to. I’ve compiled a fun little collage of items I’d like to have in my 21st year. Not necessarily gift ideas, just stuff I think would be good to have. Even though people say you’re an adult at 18,  I feel like 21 is when most people actually feel like a real adult. Something about being able to order a drink in public, I think makes people feel actually mature and sophisticated. Anyway, here is my list of adult, sophisticated things (wink face, because that was cheesy).

it's myy 21 birthday The three posters are from different shops on Etsy. I want to make a gallery wall in my dorm room this year, and they feel classy and feminine! Gilmore Girls quote poster | Dress like Jackie, Act like Audrey, Party like Gatsby | Reading is Cool

I really want some wine items, like monogram wine glasses and maybe a decanter. Since I’m a Resident Advisor, I don’t plan to keep it in my room, but I’m thinking two of my best friends will let me keep them in their apartment for when I have nights off! Also, a cookbook dedicated to cocktails? Sounds fun!

I’ve wanted a 50 mm lens for my camera for a while, but this year I really want to work on my photography skills, so I think I might finally make the investment in a good camera lens.

Travels mugs are my favorite, especially during the school year. The Kate Spade cup pictured above seems perfect for trips to the library, and would last me through law school.

You can never have too many shoes, but Jack Rogers, and these adorable white Kate Spade shoes are sophisticated and comfortable looking. I’m really trying to re-vamp my wardrobe so it’s more mature and more versatile. These two shoes seem perfect for doing just that.

Quote paperweights are the perfect accessory for my last year as an English major undergraduate. What more can I say?

As this year I will be completing my thesis, applying to law school, and graduating, my plate is pretty full. I’m also a Resident Advisor and Co-Chair of Academic Honor Council. So, essentially, I am very busy. Hence why this aqua phone case is perfect!

As for the sweater, I have a sweater problem, and this one has elbow patches. I mean, of course.

Anyway, I’m excited for my birthday! My family and I are going wine tasting in Yountville.

Green Leaves and Scallops

Hello, World.

Easy summer outfits are divine. When the Lilly for Target line launched my mom picked me up this green leaf crop top, I was a little hesitant because I don’t really do crop tops, but then I found these adorable scallop shorts at Kohl’s, and I thought they’d look great together. How do you work a crop top when you don’t really wear crop tops? Add high waisted shorts! This summer outfit is comfortable and cute, with girly finishes. I also love the back of the crop top!

Summer Style Staples

Hello, World.

I’m sorry for the brief hiatus! It was unintentional,  I promise you. It’s currently the weekend before finals commence, and the chaos lately is difficult to manage. Tomorrow marks a week until move out for summer vacation, and I’m counting the hours! I’m so so ready to be home. In light of summer approaching soon, I wanted to share my summer staples as far as fashion is concerned. I plan to spend most of my time divided between LSAT prep and beach going (with gym visits in the morning). I’m so excited for this summer!

Summer Staples A Pop of Color in a Wallet | When I’m at the beach, I usually pack a wallet in my beach bag simply so I have cash in case I want to get a snow cone or something, but also so I have my license for when I drive to and from the beach. The new Kate Spade scallop wallet is currently on my mind, and I think it’s totally perfect for summer!

A One Piece Swim Suit | So, I am well aware that I am 20 years old, and the proper attire for a 20 year old, in theory, is a itsy bitsy bikini, but to be honest, I’m pretty old fashioned, and I”m pretty modest, so the bikini thing doesn’t work for me. I hate having to walk up and down a beach to and from the water half naked. Not to mention the hassle of trying to go jet skiing or something, and being fearful I’m going to lose part of my swimsuit if I fall. So, this year, I’m opting for a classic, chic one piece. Call me old, but I personally think one pieces can be really fashion forward, and unique!

Sunnies | I guess sunglasses are always a must during summer, but I LOVE this style in particular for summer 2015.

A Good Sun Hat | I’m am always promoting the importance of a good sun hat, maybe it’s because I’m pale, and have to protect myself or I am a lobster by the second day of sitting in the sun. Sun hats can be so stylish, and so fun to wear on the beach! I’m all for finding a good hat!

A Good Beach Read | Okay, maybe not fashion related, but a good beach read should ALWAYS be in your beach bag!

A Chambray Dress | There is nothing more summery than a chambray dress. This seems so light, and so appropriate for warm weather, and also great for strolling through a farmers market, or getting lunch with a friend.

Jack Rogers Sandals | Still on my summer wishlist. I really want to invest in a pair! These are the ultimate summer sandal.

A Great Leather Bag | I am a firm believer that the best summer bag is a leather one. This Madewell bag is perfect for running errands on a hot day, hanging out downtown, or going to the park.

Seersucker Short | I love the seersucker pattern, and I think this pair of light blue and white shorts are just divine. Perfect for the beach or grabbing an iced coffee with friends.

The Boyfriend Denim Short | I try to find a good boyfriend short every summer, and usually come close, but never quite get the pair I really want. This pair is so cute, and has just the right amount of rip. I would definitely suggest these as the staple pair of shorts in your summer wardrobe.

What are your summer must-haves?

A Little Blue Blazer & Shorts

Hello, World.

It’s been a crazy whirlwind of a weekend, but yesterday I had a wonderful time. Yesterday, my friend, Erica and I went around downtown, and did a little thrift shopping, while also snapping some photos. It’s finally getting warm enough for shorts, so that’s awesome! I did finally realize just how pale I am…it’s hard to tell I’m actually a California girl, I look like I spent months in Antarctica, or someone with very little sun! Anyway, I wanted to share my go-to transition outfit for Spring. Soon it’ll be too warm for it, but for now, I’ll be enjoying this look!

This outfit is super casual, with a touch of class! I like the idea of a classic blue blazer with shorts because it’s a little unusual. I feel like this outfit has a collegiate vibe, while still feeling young. I really adore a good blue blazer. Here’s to tanning soon, and relaxing on the beach with a good novel in the coming month!

J. Crew Flounced Dress

Hello, World.

Want to know something that makes me feel exactly like Jackie O or Audrey Hepburn? A flouncy, feminine dress, of course. I found this one on sale at J. Crew about a month ago, when my mom visited, and I was so excited to wear it, but the weather wasn’t quite warm enough. I really wanted to wear it to Easter brunch at the country club, but it ended up raining, and I didn’t have tights to pair it with. Yesterday, though, the weather was beautiful, so I decided to go ahead and wear it as a casual look.

I love this dress, and I plan to get a lot of use out of it this summer! It’s so comfortable, and it can be either dressed up or down, depending on the occasion. I also wear my converse shoreline sneaks so much! If you don’t already have a pair, I’d definitely suggest investing in a pair before summer. They’re the perfect shoe, so comfy and cute!

Enjoy your Sunday! I’m heading to grab brunch with friends before studying all day!

Tweed Skirt

Hello, World.

I bought this skirt on sale at J. Crew a few weeks ago. Despite the fact that it has some major fall vibes, and winter is coming to a close, I still wanted to get it because I feel like it’d be a good transition piece, and it’ll still work for next fall! The price was simply too good to pass up, and I just had to buy it. I also knew it would go super well with my green blazer, and I love the idea of fall skirts and bean boots…hence how this outfit came together.

I just love this outfit. I wish it was colder so I could wear a similar variation of it more often!

My Go To Color

Hello, World.

You know when you go to a store, and they offer the same sweater or shirt in several shades, and you have trouble deciding which color to actually buy? You probably go through the typical thought process about which you’ll wear more, which will go with more, and which is likely to keep your interest longer. It’s always a bit difficult to decide, but I must admit, if it is offered in navy blue, I’ll buy it in navy blue. I’m all about the navy.
navy love
I love anything and everything navy. Navy blue is definitely my go to color when it comes to buying clothes. I just adore the versatility inherent in navy blue. I also love that it’s dark, but not black, and that it is also somewhat preppy and clean. Do you have a go to color? If so, what it is it? What is it about that color that draws you to it over others?

Callie leigh
