Fall…

Hello, World!

Fall is, technically, officially here! I’m so excited for the leaves to change, the temperatures to drop, and the warm lattes. Although it’s still pretty warm (mid 70s-low 80s), I’m trying to convince myself it’s going to get colder because I love the cold. I also cannot stress enough how excited I am to actually have distinct seasons. I’m ready for an East Coast fall and some snow come winter! I wanted to share a quick fall outfit, in case it’s actually pretty cold where some of you are! And if it’s not, well, here’s some inspiration and hope that fall comes faster.

Fall Inspiration

Hello, World.

I am one of those fall obsessed people who gets to September 1st, and thinks its time for boots, sweaters and jeans. Unfortunately, the world doesn’t seem to be with me since it’s still regularly 90 degrees and humid in Virginia. I have been trying to not let the heat get to me, but I’m really really ready to walk outside and feel a crisp chill in the air. In light of my love for fall and my desperation for the leaves to change, I wanted to share a little fall inspiration, meaning items that immediately make me think of fall! Below are items I’m currently loving, and would love to invest in for fall ’16! As a general aside, I’m excited to be somewhere that actually has stricter seasons. I love California, but the weather is almost too perfect because it doesn’t really change too drastically. I’ve heard that VA is beautiful in the fall and too cold in the winter (but is DOES snow!!!). I cannot express my excitement for the coming seasons. I plan to take a ton of photos of William and Mary’s main campus when the leaves change!
Screen Shot 2016-09-10 at 12.42.45 PM.png

The above items are all things I absolutely love at the moment! Something I want to get more of? Matching PJ sets. I don’t know why, but having matching PJs make me feel more grown up and put together. I get a set of flannel PJs every year for christmas, and I love them! I also would love another pair of Tory riding boots. I wear mine almost daily during the winter months, and they’re such comfortable boots. I also really want the 6″ Bean Boots. I got the 8″ against my original instinct, and while I like them, I think the 6″ hits the leg in a more flattering place, and are easier to put on and take off. Also, the BP scarf from Nordstrom embodies every fall color, and just screams fall to me. As for the Marley Lilly pullover, people who know me know I cannot resist a good monogram, and I think this piece is just SO cute. It’d be perfect for long days at the library.

If you need a good fall scent, I highly recommend the Leaves scent from Bath and Body works. It smells like fall in more ways than I can explain. A lot of pumpkins and apple scents smell great, but leaves literally smells like a fall day. I just love it!

Are you ready for autumn?

Fall Colors

Hello, World.

Even though the Bay Area refuses to accept that fall is here, it is, and it’s time to start talking about fall fashion colors. Every season there are a few colors that grab my attention, and this season is no different. This season, I’m interested in rich, vibrant hues balanced with softer touches. Fall is such a rich season already, with the leaves changing color and pumpkins galore, and I love when my clothes reiterate those tones.

Something about each of these colors is warm, cozy, and fresh. I love when fall colors have a feeling of renewal or freshness, and I think each of the above tones have that.

What are your top picks for fall colors?

Fall Style Inspiration

Hello, World.

Even though it’s mid-September, it’s definitely not feeling like it. There weather is really not feeling like fall, given that it’s 90 degrees almost daily, with a few 75 days thrown in. All I really want is for it to be cold, so I can wear sweaters and boots, and not be way too hot. In light of the warm weather, I wanted to share some of my favorite fall looks to inspire those of you who, like me, are suffering in still too warm weather.

Tweed Skirt

Hello, World.

I bought this skirt on sale at J. Crew a few weeks ago. Despite the fact that it has some major fall vibes, and winter is coming to a close, I still wanted to get it because I feel like it’d be a good transition piece, and it’ll still work for next fall! The price was simply too good to pass up, and I just had to buy it. I also knew it would go super well with my green blazer, and I love the idea of fall skirts and bean boots…hence how this outfit came together.

I just love this outfit. I wish it was colder so I could wear a similar variation of it more often!

Fall Fashion Trends: The Fair Isle Sweater

Hello, World.

If you happened to see me at Christmas in the past few years, you know that I’m a HUGE fan of Christmas or Holiday sweaters. I spend months browsing for the perfect holiday sweater, and I get WAY too excited to wear the one I finally pick. I recently discovered, or rather re-discovered, the fair isle sweater…I’m in love. Sure, that’s probably a shallow thing to say, but I just love everything about this style sweater. It offers so much warmth, comfort, and, well, it just seems absolutely perfect for the season. I love how they have a bit of the holiday feel without being super in your face. They can be casual or worn to a festive gathering, and it’ll look perfect either way. I’ve compiled some of my favorite sweaters via Pinterest, and I just had to share!

So I’m currently coveting both of those ^ sweaters. I’m a huge navy, red, and white fan…call me patriotic. I just adore the color combo, and these sweaters feel like something I would wear constantly. Truth be told, they are both mens sweaters, but I don’t discriminate, so I’d glady take either. Unfortunately the bottom sweater is currently sold out a J. Crew, which means I’m probably going to aim to obtain the Brooks Brother sweater (top).

Sarah Vickers is probably the Queen of the fair isle sweater. Honestly, she can pull them off so well, and she has so many different variations of the style. I just love her sweaters, and her entire wardrobe really.

The College Prepster has the sweater on the left, and I just think it is so cute! It’s really outside my comfort zone as far as the general color combo and whatnot, but I think it’s just far enough outside that I’d like to try it! The sweater on the right is from Urban Outfitters (last year), and I love the mint. It’s a good mix between the preppy feel and the more urban (forgive me…) feel. It’s not quite as tailored, and can be styled off the shoulder(s). Also, it’s a little slouchy, which is always a good quality in a sweater.

What are your thoughts on the fair isle sweater?

My Fall Favorites

Hello, World.

I’m pretty sure from my last few posts you probably know that fall is my favorite season. Well, if you didn’t know, the first day of fall is on Tuesday! It’s rather cold today, and I spent most my day at Starbucks doing homework that is due for my classes tomorrow. In light of the first day of favorite season coming soon, I thought i would share my absolute fall favorites.
9775d65021467f471e5c4217271b6621In autumn, I live for riding boots, chunky knit sweaters, pumpkin flavored beverages, pumpkin anything really, comfy socks, fall-inspired photo shoots, soft blankets, s’mores, deep colored nail polishes, deep lip color, scarves, most boots (but I REALLY want duck boots), and warm apple cider next to the fire while watching Gilmore Girls. If you think about it, most of Gilmore Girls takes place in the fall, which is probably why I adore the show so much! I just love it. It’s seriously the BEST. In high school, something I did religiously on Friday nights was I went to the football games. My college doesn’t have a football team, so I don’t go to football games anymore. I’m trying to get into a routine for Friday nights. Last fall my roommate and I hosted “Harry Potter Friday” where everyone who lived in our building would come to our room and watch one of the Harry Potter movies. It was a fun tradition, but my roommate from last year is currently in London, so we’re postponing the Harry Potter marathon until she returns. Maybe I’ll finally convince some of my friends to start watching Gilmore Girls, or just movies that take place in fall, who knows.

What’s your favorite thing about fall?

Plain and Plaid

Hello, World.

I know it’s been a few days, but I have a reason. I promise! For the last week, I did not use social media. I kind of have a little itsy bitsy addiction to Instagram and Facebook, and tend to fall into obsessive checking of all social media networks when I’m trying to avoid homework. I was kind of nervous I wasn’t going to be able to make it a full week, and then be just really pathetic. BUT I am happy to report the only social media I truly missed was this blog. I wanted to post, but at the same time I didn’t want to do a post while I was swearing off the Internet world. Not having access to Facebook and Instagram gave me time each day (because I was way more productive in doing homework and school things) to journal, write, and just think ponder life. I hadn’t written in my journal in roughly a month, which is an unusually long time for me. I guess I had a lot to say because I took roughly 10 pages to say all the things I was thinking. I have this theory that you aren’t truly over something until you write it all out on paper. Because at least when its on paper its an entity separate from you. An entity you can choose to throw away, burn, etc.

IMG_0476 2IMG_0477 IMG_0554IMG_0562IMG_0565IMG_0581IMG_0626IMG_0633blog outfit 2I also happen to know that Novel November is going on at the moment, and I have this idea for a book I’d like to write, so I had time to start that project. With all my schoolwork lately I don’t really have time to just do creative writing for me. Usually if I’m writing something that isn’t for class, it’s for The Collegian (the school paper). Not that I don’t enjoy writing for the paper, but sometimes writing a novel just for me is relaxing and a great way to get the creative energy that gets lost during semester lulls flowing again. Another thing I had time to do? Go to Barnes and Noble and look through travel books (namely for London), and I also invested in a Law School book. Yes, I’m changing my life plan slightly, but hey, sometimes change is necessary. I happen to be the person that plans everything out, totally detailed, and when one thing in my life doesn’t work as originally planned, I throw every aspect of the original plan out and start over. So, new life plan? Go to London for a semester; go to law school following undergraduate graduation. More on this to come (wink wink).

On a final note, something I am looking forward to is the fact my parents are visiting Saturday, and then in just a few short weeks I will be heading North to home, then to the family cabin for Thanksgiving. I LOVE THANKSGIVING. I mean, what’s not to love? Family, food, pie, board games, snow, hiking, movies, cider…must I go on? I’m sure you get why Thanksgiving is a fantastic holiday. Also, there’s the whole aspect of taking a day to really think about what you’re thankful for. I, for one, know that I am blessed beyond belief and Thanksgiving really overwhelms me because I have so many things, big and small, to gives thanks for (like the fact that I have two amazing parents and a wonderful sister, and a hilarious [almost] brother). Have a good Wednesday, and remember… Thanksgiving is coming so there is light at the end of the tunnel.

The Leaves they are a Changin’

Hello, World.
Today was a beautiful day. The weather was perfect… not too hot, not too cold. I also decided that I wasn’t going to bother with homework or schoolwork today because I am not about to start doing school seven days a week. We are supposed to have weekends for a reason, and I would like that think that reason is so we can relax and gain our bearings before another week of the grind. But alas, today was great. My friends, Aly and Andee, joined me for brunch at Millie’s a great local diner that has phenomenal breakfast! Breakfast was delicious, and the conversation was funny, which is always nice. Then we returned to campus, and hiked up past the Redwood Grove, and took some photos. After, we ran to get coffee, but the coffee place was out of soy milk, so I didn’t get anything. Overall, it was one of the funnest days I’ve had in a long time. Being stressed is one of my least favorite things, and I love the moments when I don’t feel completely deranged and can just enjoy the company of good friends. Here are some photos of today’s outfit, and of the beautiful place we went exploring.

The final photo features my lovely photographer of the day, Andee. She’s such a doll, and a wonderful photographer. She really has an eye for great photos! Personally, I think a profession where she typically has a camera in her hand is in her future, but who am I to say? Anyway, my saturday was brilliant, but sadly I know tomorrow means homework…lots of homework. But it’s only 8:30pm so I still have a few hours of being carefree left. Enjoy your Saturday night or Sunday morning, and maybe take a few minutes this week to go explore somewhere or something new!

October’s Pumpkin Patch Visit

Hello, World.

Last Saturday my friends and I took a midterm study break, and headed to my roommate’s hometown to visit her local pumpkin patch. I hadn’t been to a pumpkin patch in roughly nine years, so I was really excited! The trip turned into also visiting my roommate’s family, ordering chinese food, and watching some movies. It was so relaxing! I’ve felt so stressed recently that having five minutes to just breathe seems unrealistic, so having a full day (almost) to relax and spend time with my friends was wonderful.

Image

The pumpkin patch itself was rather small and quaint, and they had beautiful pumpkins! Pumpkins are the embodiment of fall to me, so pumpkin anything is a must for me from about September until December. Now do you understand my obsession with pumpkin spice lattes? My favorite season is fall, so its like having fall in a cup every single day… true love right there.

The pumpkin patch visit was great, and I had so much fun. Life has thrown a lot of curve balls at me lately, but I feel like I’m beginning to understand why things are the way they are. I’m not sure what normal is, but I have a feeling my new version of normal is perfection despite the amount of homework I had the last few weeks. I’m really hoping to be able to blog more, and get to know all of you lovely readers more! Anyway, I’m heading home tomorrow for a four day break from school, and for the first time in my life, I’m really excited to head back to Chico. The one thing that I always loved about Chico was the fall season. The trees get SO bright, and the air is so crisp. It’s truly a stunning place to be in October or November when Fall is in full swing. I hope your having a good Wednesday, and I hope the rest of your week is as stress-free as possible! Enjoy today.

Truly, Callie Leigh
