Fall Inspiration

Hello, World.

I am one of those fall obsessed people who gets to September 1st, and thinks its time for boots, sweaters and jeans. Unfortunately, the world doesn’t seem to be with me since it’s still regularly 90 degrees and humid in Virginia. I have been trying to not let the heat get to me, but I’m really really ready to walk outside and feel a crisp chill in the air. In light of my love for fall and my desperation for the leaves to change, I wanted to share a little fall inspiration, meaning items that immediately make me think of fall! Below are items I’m currently loving, and would love to invest in for fall ’16! As a general aside, I’m excited to be somewhere that actually has stricter seasons. I love California, but the weather is almost too perfect because it doesn’t really change too drastically. I’ve heard that VA is beautiful in the fall and too cold in the winter (but is DOES snow!!!). I cannot express my excitement for the coming seasons. I plan to take a ton of photos of William and Mary’s main campus when the leaves change!

The above items are all things I absolutely love at the moment! Something I want to get more of? Matching PJ sets. I don’t know why, but having matching PJs make me feel more grown up and put together. I get a set of flannel PJs every year for christmas, and I love them! I also would love another pair of Tory riding boots. I wear mine almost daily during the winter months, and they’re such comfortable boots. I also really want the 6″ Bean Boots. I got the 8″ against my original instinct, and while I like them, I think the 6″ hits the leg in a more flattering place, and are easier to put on and take off. Also, the BP scarf from Nordstrom embodies every fall color, and just screams fall to me. As for the Marley Lilly pullover, people who know me know I cannot resist a good monogram, and I think this piece is just SO cute. It’d be perfect for long days at the library.

If you need a good fall scent, I highly recommend the Leaves scent from Bath and Body works. It smells like fall in more ways than I can explain. A lot of pumpkins and apple scents smell great, but leaves literally smells like a fall day. I just love it!

Are you ready for autumn?

Fall Fashion Trends: The Fair Isle Sweater

Hello, World.

If you happened to see me at Christmas in the past few years, you know that I’m a HUGE fan of Christmas or Holiday sweaters. I spend months browsing for the perfect holiday sweater, and I get WAY too excited to wear the one I finally pick. I recently discovered, or rather re-discovered, the fair isle sweater…I’m in love. Sure, that’s probably a shallow thing to say, but I just love everything about this style sweater. It offers so much warmth, comfort, and, well, it just seems absolutely perfect for the season. I love how they have a bit of the holiday feel without being super in your face. They can be casual or worn to a festive gathering, and it’ll look perfect either way. I’ve compiled some of my favorite sweaters via Pinterest, and I just had to share!

So I’m currently coveting both of those ^ sweaters. I’m a huge navy, red, and white fan…call me patriotic. I just adore the color combo, and these sweaters feel like something I would wear constantly. Truth be told, they are both mens sweaters, but I don’t discriminate, so I’d glady take either. Unfortunately the bottom sweater is currently sold out a J. Crew, which means I’m probably going to aim to obtain the Brooks Brother sweater (top).

Sarah Vickers is probably the Queen of the fair isle sweater. Honestly, she can pull them off so well, and she has so many different variations of the style. I just love her sweaters, and her entire wardrobe really.

The College Prepster has the sweater on the left, and I just think it is so cute! It’s really outside my comfort zone as far as the general color combo and whatnot, but I think it’s just far enough outside that I’d like to try it! The sweater on the right is from Urban Outfitters (last year), and I love the mint. It’s a good mix between the preppy feel and the more urban (forgive me…) feel. It’s not quite as tailored, and can be styled off the shoulder(s). Also, it’s a little slouchy, which is always a good quality in a sweater.

What are your thoughts on the fair isle sweater?

September Recap

Hello, World.

Today is the first day of my favorite month of the year: October. October brings pumpkins, Halloween, horror films, candy, orange leaves, sweaters, boots, and scarves. Basically, I love everything about October. But, September treated me pretty well this year, and I thought I would share a few of my favorite moments from the past month!
Image
When I went to Peets at the beginning of September and realized their pumpkin chai lattes were back, I almost cried I was so happy. Pumpkin is the ultimate representation of autumn for me, and when I get to go have coffee with my favorite people, and just talk about life over a warm beverage, I am seriously one of the happiest people ever.

I hiked to the cross on campus with a new friend, and had such a beautiful view of campus and the sunset.
Image
I found a really cute little reading spot for in the morning before my Bible class. I love the sound of water, and reading near this fountain is so relaxing. Not to mention I think campus is absolutely beautiful early in the morning.
Image
Starbucks date with two of my good friends, Ashley and Andee. I think I drink too many coffees, but what the hell, I like my chai lattes and talking to my friends. I have a lot to say, apparently.

I got a letter from my friend, Kyle. Luckily he’s understanding of my ridiculously poor skills at responding to letters because otherwise I would never get mail. But I adored getting a handwritten letter, showing me he cared. I’m working on a response, and hopefully I can get it in the mail before October passes.

I finally purchased Elsie and Emma’s photo idea book! I am thrilled, and cannot wait to try some of the photo challenges and whatnot. Both Elsie and Emma are so talented, and I am excited to read their first book!
Overall, September was a great month. I had so many beautiful moments, and I wish I could include all of them. September was a month of change for me, getting used to things that were different, getting used to a new class schedule, new professors, and new friends. Sometimes I wake up and can’t help but think, how the hell did I get to this point? So much changed in such a short time, but to be perfectly honest, I’m the happiest I’ve felt in a long time. I love everyone in my life with all my heart, and I love who I am at this point in my life. When September started, I felt detached, and like a part of me was missing, but luckily I located the missing piece, and even tweaked some things I didn’t like, and now I always feel content. I’m not a fan of unnecessary drama, and I’m so thankful I can trust and love everyone in my life unconditionally each and every day.

Fall Is In The Air

Hello, World.

Walking across campus today I felt something I haven’t felt in a while: cold. There was a chill, not a slight chill, but an actual chill in the air. At first I thought that I probably should have grabbed my scarf, but then I realized something else: fall is nearing closer. So, with the idea that autumn, my absolute favorite season, is in the air, I thought I would share some little pieces of fall with you, and the parts of fall that are my favorites.

Image

Leaves changing color. Something about that change that accompanies fall makes me feel like anything is possible. I love when leaves lose that summery green, and turn crispy orange, yellow, or red. Changing leaves, and the crunch of leaves under my boots, are my favorite.

I’m looking forward to apples in any form: apple cider, apple pie, apple crisp, apples, etc. Apples taste like fall to me.

ImageAnything pumpkin flavored is a must for me during the fall. At Starbucks, I get a pumpkin spice latte (my first of the season is right there in the middle), and at Peets I add pumpkin syrup to my chai lattes. Pumpkin is my favorite flavor, so whenever I notice a pumpkin tea at the grocery store, I immediately become much happier and realize fall is coming for me.

Something I also love about fall? Cozy socks. I don’t know why, but it makes me think of home, family, and comfort. I know it’s weird, but for some reason cozy feet just make me super happy. I also love when I can start wearing boots all the time. I may be rather tall, but boots are my favorite kind of shoe. I always feel way taller and just more confident and happy when I’m wearing boots. Again, my feet are cozy in boots, and cozy feet makes for a happy me.

So, there you have my favorite things that fall brings.

What are your favorite fall things?
