I head back to school August 16, and I’m nervous! I cannot believe that I’m entering my last year at Saint Mary’s. I know I sound like a broken record with disbelief, but it’s astounding to me. I feel like I was just entering college, and yet when I look back on the past three years, so so much happened to turn me into the person I am now, typing this. I know I touched on it previously, but junior year was a hard one. It tested me in so many ways, and while I do feel I came out stronger, there is a part of me that feels slightly hesitant about going back. This year is my last one of undergrad, and as much as I’m ready to move on to the next chapter, I want to soak up every minute of this coming year.
So, I wanted to take a moment to share what I’m looking forward to this year. I have a lot of things, but I’m going to share my top ten!
In no particular order:
Being a Resident Advisor in a New Building
Last year, I was a Resident Advisor for the building I lived in my first year on campus. While the residents were amazing, as well as my boss, other factors made the experience slightly miserable. I felt constantly talked down to, and like I didn’t have any support. I made the decision to move to a different hall, and while this decision meant that I could potentially lose my position all together, I got hired in a building I really wanted to work in. I’m so excited to meet my residents, and make their hall their home!
Spending Countless Moments with My Best Friends
This is self-explanatory, but I have one full year left with my friends where we will all be together, in the same place. I plan to soak up all the time I can with them.
Finishing My Thesis
My thesis the largest, most intimating project to tackle in my college career. I’m completing it this fall semester. I plan to do a more in-depth post about my thesis, and what a thesis for my major at my college entails, but for now I’ll just say I’ll be pleased and accomplished when it’s done.
My Last Jan Term
Jan Term is the most unique aspect of my SMC experience. So far I took Play-writing, Faulkner, and Tort Law. Diverse topics? Yes. Did I learn a lot? Indeed!
Using the New Rec Center on Campus
The Rec Center was finally completed last year! Since my new res hall is right next door, basically, I’m going to try to work out and hangout at the Rec Center more frequently.
My Last Gonzaga v. SMC Game as a Current Student
The biggest day on campus! Kind of. I”m so so excited for my last game at SMC as a student. Everyone gets so into the game, and everyone really bonds over being SMC students.
Serving as Co-Chair of Academic Honor Council
I worked really hard to get to this position. I cannot wait to serve my Council, and grow my leadership. I’m so blessed that I get to impact the direction of something that is so meaningful to me.
Applying to Law School
This process stresses me a bit, but only because it feels random and uncertain. Once the LSAT is done, I’ll have a slightly better idea of where I stand in the applicant pool (well, a little better idea). So far my list includes Stanford, UC Davis, Santa Clara, Pepperdine, Harvard, and Georgetown!
Hiking to the Cross More
My campus has a beautiful cross on a hill, and the hike to it is a great little workout, and the view from the top is stunning. It’s one of my favorite things to do on campus.
Graduating with Honors
As an honors student and dedicated academic, graduating undergrad with honors is a major goal of mine. As of now, it looks promising.
This year is huge. My sister is getting married, I’m finally 21, I’m graduating, and I’m applying to law school. I have a feeling it’ll fly by, despite how much I want things to slow down. I seriously think this year will be a wonderful, positive whirlwind. I can’t wait to see what this year holds, especially with so many big moments coming up quickly.
