Although my summer vacation isn’t technically over, I am moving back to campus tomorrow to begin Resident Advisor training. I’m really excited to get back to school, and see all my friends, but before I take off, I wanted to recap my time at home this summer. I had a really great, productive summer, and it was so much more enjoyable than last summer, and I felt like I did a lot of growing this summer. It might sound weird, but I feel like I matured a lot, I let a lot of things go, and I found my ‘happy place.’ I’m happier right at this moment than I’ve ever been. I’m so excited for all that this year holds, and I’m so blessed to have had such a great summer at home.
To begin my summer, I spent a lot of time at my sister’s new house, which she completely remodeled! It is her first house, and I’m so happy for her! It turned out beautifully, and I took tons of photos of the entire process in order to make her a before and after book. I still haven’t been able to get the final final photos yet, but I plan to take them next time I’m home!
I drank tons of chai tea lattes and bowls of soul! I’m a huge coffee dater. Yes, I’m that person that continually invites people to coffee because I believe there is nothing better than grabbing a delicious beverage and having long conversations.
I spent time with friends from home, and friends from school. This summer was really fun as far as seeing people. Last summer I felt like schedules were really conflicting, and I never really got to see my friends from school, but this summer three of my friends from school really made an effort to hangout, which made me happy! Also, I hung out with my two closest friends from home a ton, along with my friend, Nick, when he was in town.
I went to a Giants game with my parents and my friend, Kate. We have tickets to twenty games, but since we split the seats with my aunt and uncle, I don’t always get to go, so I was really excited when I was able to go to a game this summer! We have great seats at club level behind home plate.
I spent a ton of time with my sister’s puppy, Molly. Isn’t she just the sweetest? She’s a hyper little thing, but I sure love her. My sister’s boyfriend went out of town for two weeks the day after they moved into their new house, so I stayed with my sister and helped her get situated, and a large part of that was sitting with Molly!
I spent a TON of time at my family’s cabin, which I always love. I love spending time at our cabin because it’s one of the only places where my parents really relax, and we go for walks, and we lounge at the beach. My cabin is probably my happy place. I become so relaxed and I really enjoy my time there.
My mom and I did a ton of puzzles this summer, which was really fun! I love puzzles. We usually do a family puzzle during Thanksgiving, but we decided to do two while at the cabin this summer!!
I made my mom go with me to see “The Fault in Our Stars.” I was SO excited for this film because I read the novel, and absolutely loved it. The film was an excellent adaption of the novel. Shailene Woodley surprised me a lot in the film, and was a great Hazel. As for Ansel Elgort, he was seriously such a perfect Augustus. I loved him so much, and fell in love with him every single scene. He nailed it. I cried through the whole thing.
I GOT MY GOLD CARD. My addiction finally paid off, and I’m now an elite member of the coffee addicts anonymous club. WOOO HOOO.
I studied a little for the LSAT because why not study for the test that could potentially determine your future? I’m hoping to really nail down the exam by the time I take it next summer.
I spent many an afternoon at Barnes and Noble, browsing the books, and scanning tons of titles into my Goodreads app. I love Barnes and Nobles. I find browsing browsing bookshelves so relaxing, and I love discovering new authors! Have any reading suggestions for me? :)
I did quite a lot of reading during the month of June, then had hard time finding time to read for fun during July, but picked back up once August came. I read some really great novels this year. You can read my reviews of An Abundance of Katherines and This Is Where I Leave You by clicking the titles! My review of One Day will hopefully be coming to the blog soon!
Perhaps the coolest thing I did this summer, as well as the most productive, was my internship! When summer started, I applied for some internships, but never heard anything, so I just assumed I wasn’t going to get one this summer, which was disappointing. But then on June 28th, I got a call about interning at a law office in my hometown. I was so excited! The office was pretty small, and had never taken an intern before, but they offered me the spot! I was so excited, and I feel that being the first intern at this office gave me a unique opportunity. I was able to sit in on attorney appointments, really get to know the staff, attend public engagements the attorney had, and I converted all of their closed cases from paper files into electronic versions as part of the new file management program. Perhaps the biggest five things I took away from the position was how attorneys interact with clients and how they handle sensitive information, how to manage a schedule for an office, the game of office politics, and how to adjust techniques or schedules when needed. I really enjoyed my internship, and I’m so thankful I had the opportunity to work for such a nice, caring firm. The attorney continually asked me what I wanted to get out of the internship, and gave me a lot of opportunities to shadow her. I also got to write a pilot packet for the internship program, which they plan to use if they continue it in future years. It was a wonderful experience, and I’m so glad I was blessed with this internship! I styled the Warby Parker Summer Collection 2014 per the request of Warby Parker. I fell in love with the collection, and really hope to invest in a pair of Warby Parker sunnies in the near future!
I celebrated my twentieth birthday! That was a wonderful day. For some reason I really only got good photos with my sister, but you can read a little about my day HERE.
Overall this summer was absolutely fantastic! While I also get a little sad to leave my family and friends, I’m SO excited to head back to SMC for my junior year. I have so many things going on this year, but I know it’ll be my best year yet! Here’s to living life to the fullest! I’m vowing to make the most of each day this year, and to be happy even when it’s difficult.
