Sickness? No Thanks.

Hello World.

As the blossoms are beginning to bloom, the pollen is beginning to circulate, and as everyone starts getting Spring Fever (both literally and figuratively), people are dropping like flies. A ton of my friends are getting tickles in their throat, coughs, stuffy noses, and watery eyes, and it’s beginning to freak me out. I hate being sick, but I especially hate being sick when I am trying to get a job that requires roughly two weeks of interviews. I’m completely serious when I say I do not have time to be sick. So, how am I trying to maintain my semi-healthy demeanor? A few ways really.

1) Get a lot of sleep. Do your homework or work during the day so that you can get into bed early and get a good 8 hours of sleep. Call it beauty sleep if you will, but when fighting sickness, sleep is the best remedy.

2) Drink tons of water. I carry a smart water with me at all times these days, making sure I’m hydrated so I can better battle the sore throat I feel encroaching.

3) Go to your local drug store and pick up some zinc pills, vitamin-C tablets, or Zicam if you’re not allergic. Anything that will help you fight sickness is great. I’m usually really against taking any form of medicine, but seeing as I cannot afford to get sick, I can afford to spend a few bucks on medication.

4) Drink tea with honey or hot water with lemon. Both drinks with coat your throat, and soothe your body.

5) Avoid perfumes because sometimes things that smell really strong make you sneeze, and you don’t want to start sneezing and then be unable to stop. Also, excessive nose-blowing give you a Rudolph appearance and will make it harder to talk to professionals if you’re interviewing for a summer job or internship.

6) Tell your sick friends you love them, but will see them in healthier days. Being around sick people is the best way to get sick, but it’s definitely not something you want to do if you’re trying to stay healthy. Maybe drop off some cough drops and tea to your friend, then depart quickly.

7) Lastly, know your body. I know that sounds a little odd, but trust me, your body will speak to you, it’ll let you know if you’re getting sick or if you’re already past the point of no return. So, listen to your body.
